Pre-IV Sedation & Anesthesia Guidelines
Proper preparation before IV sedation helps ensure a safe and comfortable experience. Please review the following guidelines carefully before your appointment.
Before Your Procedure
- Do not eat or drink anything (including water) for at least 6 to 8 hours before your scheduled surgery time. An empty stomach is essential for safe sedation.
- Take prescribed medications as directed by Dr. Shin with a small sip of water on the morning of surgery, unless instructed otherwise.
- Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing with short sleeves or sleeves that can easily be rolled up above the elbow.
- Remove contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures before your procedure.
- Do not wear makeup, nail polish, or lip products on the day of surgery, as these can interfere with monitoring equipment.
Transportation
- Arrange a responsible adult to drive you to and from the office. You will not be permitted to drive, operate machinery, or take public transportation alone for 24 hours after sedation.
- Your driver must remain in the office or be immediately available during your procedure.
Medications & Health History
- Inform our office of all medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
- Notify us immediately if you develop a cold, sore throat, fever, or any illness before your appointment. Your procedure may need to be rescheduled.
- Do not smoke or use tobacco products for at least 12 hours before surgery.
- Do not consume alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to your procedure.
Day of Surgery
- Please arrive at our office at the time specified by our team.
- A parent or legal guardian must be present for patients under 18.
- Bring your insurance card, photo ID, and any required forms.
